Arise from Darkness is an American art house paranormal, thriller drama that premiered at Film Invasion L.A film festival as When my Eyes go Dark, its original title. The film claims to be the first to use electronic voice phenomena (EVP) recorded by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit|Archdiocese of Detroit.

Premise

The story is based on events surrounding Lazaro Ruben Torres, a neighborhood psychic who assisted the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit to investigate the paranormal. Torres discovers his psychic abilities after his daughter is killed, and then uses these abilities to discover her murderer. The film uses electronic voices of phenomena (EVP) recorded by the Archdiocese during exorcisms to narrate the movie.

Production

The film is set in Detroit, and its production was completed in Chicago on June 15, 2015 by Ave Fenix Pictures. It is the second film from executive producer Mónica Esmeralda León and writer and actor Zachary Laoutides. The film was scored in Glasgow and Manchester, United Kingdom.

Release

Arise from Darkness was the first film to open FILA (Film Invasion Los Angeles) 2016. The film was released in US theaters and worldwide by Indican Pictures on January 16, 2017. Arise from Darkness was later released to Redbox through Lionsgate Films.
