Dragon City was first released in Facebook on May 8, 2012, with iOS on March 21, 2013, and Android on July 3, 2013. On February 26, 2019, the Microsoft Windows version of the game was released. On February 2, 2020, the Facebook version of the game was closed.
Gameplay
Dragon City follows players to raise their own dragons and design a city full of dragons on floating islands. Gold produced by dragons that can be used to buy and upgrade buildings and habitats (habitats can be also upgraded with elemental tokens at later levels). The farms exchange gold for food (they look like tomatoes), which can be used to level up dragons that evolve them, improve strength (health and power) depending on the dragon's rarity, and increase gold production. Breeding allows two dragons above the level of 4 to produce a hybrid dragon or a legendary dragon. Gems are the premium currency that can be collected via in-app purchases; and by other tasks for collecting Gems.
Arenas, Leagues, and Quests are different kinds of battles where one of three player's dragons fight one of three opponent's dragons. When in the battle, dragons can have an ability for strong damage (but can also have weak or no damage, as well as normal damage), depending on the dragon elements. Leagues allow you to use any combination of dragons, including only one or two, assuming they have reached at least level 4. Also, Arenas and Quests may have extra requirements, such as elements or rarity.
Once a player has reached the player level 27, the Ancient World appears, which is an area of the game where the gold can be exchanged for crystals (ruby, sapphire, topaz, emerald, onyx, diamond) which can be collected from mines that can be used to summon ancient dragons. The crafting station used to craft crystals equivalent to the current crystal with numerous raw crystals and previously crafted crystals using platinum. Platinum is generated by the ancient dragons similarly to how the regular dragons generate gold.
As of December 2020, there are 1,431 dragons composed of basic dragon elements Terra, Flame, Sea, Nature, Electric, Ice, Metal, Dark, Light, War, Pure, Legend, Primal, and Wind, while ancient dragon elements are Beauty, Chaos, Magic, Dream, Soul, and Happy; nine guardian dragons (one tower per island for islands 1 to 9) used to boost the aspects of the entire game; and there are 18 ancient dragons in the Ancient World.
